Sign the petition to put Initiative 89 onto the 2024 Ballot!

Here’s the language as it will appear on your ballot:
“Shall there be a change to the Colorado constitution recognizing the right to abortion, and, in connection therewith, prohibiting the state and local governments from denying, impeding, or discriminating against the exercise of that right, allowing abortion to be a covered service under health insurance plans for Colorado state and local government employees and for enrollees in state and local government insurance programs?”

The initiative does two things: codifies the right to abortion in the Colorado constitution. And, overrides an amendment narrowly passed in the 1980s that prohibited Medicaid recipients and state employees from using their insurance to get a pregnancy terminated.*

Organizers will need to collect 185,000 signatures from registered voters, from all over the state of Colorado (at least 2% of the total signatures must come from each of Colorado’s state senate districts).
Deadline for petition signatures is April 25.

ONCE YOU’VE SIGNED, REMEMBER THAT YOU’VE SIGNED! (make a note to yourself) — we don’t want any signatures thrown out!

Among its effects, the amendment blocked Medicaid recipients and state employees from having their abortions covered by their insurance.” — Colorado Sun, 9/28/23
