DID YOU KNOW — Your PRIMARY BALLOT ARRIVES in your mailbox in just a couple of weeks? Longmont Area Democrats is THE BEST place to get the lowdown on your ballot before it arrives. Why is the June 28 primary ballot so important? Which races are contested? YOUR VOTE IS YOUR VOICE. We’ll tell you ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW so that you can turn your ballot in ASAYGI (as soon as you get it), and be all the more prepared for November, too!
As you know, the Colorado Legislative Session ended on May 12, with many good bills being signed by the Governor throughout May. Marilyn Hughes will give us a brief overview of the worst & best bills — have we said that voting in democratic majorities matter? — including one bill that Governor Polis might not sign (!) that we’ll need your persuasive help on. And LAD Board Members Ingrid Moore and Stan Gelb wlll show us how it’s done: reading recent democracy defending testimony and editorial.
THEN, a SPECIAL SCREENING of Brave New Films’ Suppressed and Sabotaged: The Fight to Vote, a short but powerful documentary about the growing threat of voter suppression and election sabotage to our 2022 midterm elections. Just because we have the mail in ballot here in Colorado, doesn’t mean we should EVER take it for granted — and what about friends and family in other states? The film is brought to you by Common Cause and Brave New Films’ Robert Greenwald, who you might remember from other landmark documentaries: Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch’s War on Journalism (2004), Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price (2005), and Koch Brothers Exposed (2012).
