Last week’s meeting…

Thanks to all who attended LAD’s meeting on April 3. Our thanks to Debbie Lammers (SVVSD School Board), Kat Bennet, Marta Moreno (El Comite), Mayor Dennis Coombs, Judy Lubow (RTD Board), and Chris Quinn, Planning Project Manager for RTD. For those of you who missed it, we got some great feedback from folks who said it was jam packed with useful information for our community. Here are some notes:

DID YOU KNOW that 800 students graduated from Adult Education in the St. Vrain Valley School District (SVVSD) last year? SVVSD is the 8th largest school district in the state. For 45 years, Adult Education thrived, giving opportunity for better jobs as well as advancement to thousands of citizens in the Longmont community. It was funded by the Department of Labor, but 40% of that funding had to come from SVVSD. Unfortunately the SVVSD Administration opted to cut that funding and we no longer have Adult Education. There are only 30 Adult Education programs in the whole state with no state funding. Adult Education is unique and it cannot be compared to K-12. The last graduating class from SVVSD’s Adult Education Program will have their ceremony on June 20. Stay tuned for ways you can be involved to raise awareness about this issue…
