City Elections

The City of Longmont holds a regular municipal election the first Tuesday of November in every odd-numbered year. The Mayor, who serves a two-year term, is up for election at every regular municipal election. Council members serve four-year, staggered terms which means that three of the six Council members are also up for election at every regular municipal election. These elections may also include ballot issues presented by the City Council or requested by citizens through a petitioning process. For more information on the petitioning process, contact the City Clerk at (303) 651-8650.

Special elections can be called by the City Council, and are generally held on the first Tuesday of November in even numbered years. These elections contain ballot issues presented by City Council or requested by citizens through the petitioning process. Council seats are generally not filled during a special election except in the rare instance when a seat has become vacant in the middle of a term.

All City elections are held in conjunction with elections from other local government jurisdictions and school districts in Boulder County and Weld County. The County Clerks coordinate the elections for the various jurisdictions.

The Longmont City Clerk is responsible for seeing that the City’s items are properly prepared for the ballot and works closely with the County Clerks to insure the mechanics of the election process are satisfactory.  The City Clerk’s voter information number is 303-651-8649. Boulder County election offices can be reached by calling 303-413-7740.
