Longmont Area Democrats Film Series Presents “Inside Job”

From Academy Award® nominated filmmaker, Charles Ferguson (“No End In Sight”), comes INSIDE JOB, the first film to expose the shocking truth behind the economic crisis of 2008. The global financial meltdown, at a cost of over $20 trillion, resulted in millions of people losing their homes and jobs.

Through extensive research and interviews with major financial insiders, politicians and journalists, INSIDE JOB traces the rise of a rogue industry and unveils the corrosive relationships which have corrupted politics, regulation and academia.

Narrated by Academy Award® winner Matt Damon, INSIDE JOB was made on location in the United States, Iceland, England, France, Singapore, and China.

Hosted by Jim Kenworthy and Rich Hansen

Monthly Longmont Area Democrats Meeting – 2/2/2011, 6:30PM

Please join us at 723 Main Street in Longmont for our monthly LAD meeting on February 2, 2011.

TOPIC: Corporate Personhood with Dan Leftwich, Evolutionary Law, and board member, Free Speech for People. (see description here)

A challenge to all LAD members:

As we embark upon the new year, we seek to increase our numbers, galvanize the Democratic base in Longmont and make the Longmont Area Dems stronger than ever! In order for us to be successful, however, we need YOUR help! To that end, I would like to challenge each of you to bring at least one person with you to February’s meeting. You can bring someone who has never joined LAD, a former member or a member who is no longer engaged. In order for us to succeed in Longmont, we need to G-R-O-W as an organization and, while the board is busy putting together a plan for 2011 membership growth, we need for everyone to assist in helping us fill 723 Main St. each and every meeting in 2011.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

John Bigger

President, Longmont Area Democrats

LAD Film Series: “9500 Liberty” – 2/16/2011, 7:00PM

Longmont Area Democrats Film Series Presents:

“9500 Liberty”

Hosted by Marisa Dirks

Please join us for the first LAD Film Series presentation, which will feature the acclaimed 2009 documentary, “9500 Liberty”.

Prince William County, Virginia becomes ground zero in America’s explosive battle over immigration policy when elected officials adopt a law requiring police officers to question anyone they have “probable cause” to suspect is an undocumented immigrant.

9500 Liberty reveals the startling vulnerability of a local government, targeted by national anti-immigration networks using the Internet to frighten and intimidate lawmakers and citizens. Alarmed by a climate of fear and racial division, residents form a resistance using YouTube videos and virtual townhalls, setting up a real-life showdown in the seat of county government.

The devastating social and economic impact of the “Immigration Resolution” is felt in the lives of real people in homes and in local businesses. But the ferocious fight to adopt and then reverse this policy unfolds inside government chambers, on the streets, and on the Internet. 9500 Liberty provides a front row seat to all three battlegrounds.

LAD Monthly Meeting – 1/5/2011 @ 6:30 PM

Special Guest Speaker: Paula Noonan from Colorado Capitol Watch

Please join us at 723 Main Street in Longmont as we kick off 2011 in Dem Style!

Meet LAD ‘s new Board Members and join us for a guest presentation by Paula Noonan from Colorado Capitol Watch. Colorado Capitol Watch (CCW) has created a website that

“makes tracking the State Legislature easy, interesting, entertaining, and transparent.” Now you (yes, YOU!) can track any bill you might be interested in as well as the voting records of all legislators.

CCW’s Mission Statement

Colorado Capitol Watch counts votes. We count votes by individual legislator, by individual bills, by committees, by party, by categories of bills, and any other way we can think of.
We believe that our legislators’ votes provide the record of their performance in serving the citizens of Colorado. We will bring that record to all Coloradans.
