Andrew Romanoff, 9/5/18

(Thanks to everyone who attended! Presentation materials from this meeting can be found when you click the Resources widget, to the left.)

Wednesday, September 5 • Ballot Update starts promptly at 6:30pm! • Front Range Community College • Community Room
After leading Colorado’s General Assembly to its first Democratic majority in 40 years, our friend Andrew Romanoff has continued his service to the people of Colorado as President and CEO of Mental Health Colorado. Andrew will be presenting the School Mental Health Toolkit created in an effort to get mental health resources into every school in Colorado.Studies show that children are more likely to seek help if support is available at school. This powerful toolkit works as a blueprint for school districts, parents, teachers, or anyone who wants to see improved mental health services in their school district.

We’ve also invited members of the St. Vrain Valley School Board, school Principals, the Longmont City Council, and several parent groups, community groups, as well as students, to participate as well as offer insight.

And as always, we’ll update you on political action items (the Kavanaugh hearing started yesterday), including developments on ballot issues. THE MIDTERM ELECTION IS IN 62 DAYS.

Join us…and please, bring a friend! TONIGHT, Wednesday, September 5, 6:30pm, Front Range Community College, 2121 Miller Drive, Classroom Building (east side of Miller Drive), Community Room. (go in door C4, go left, past the cafeteria, Community Room is on the right across from the bathrooms.)

THANKS FOR ALL THAT YOU DO!

LAD Meeting: Wednesday, June 6!

Wednesday, June 6 • 6:30pm (meeting will start promptly at 6:45!) • Front Range Community College • Community Room
YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS our next meeting: where else will you get a comprehensive overview of your PRIMARY (June 26) ballot, but the very place that introduced you to the candidates ON that ballot?

We had an exciting, frustrating — yet productive Colorado legislative session (it ended May 8). We’ll have State Reps Jonathan Singer (HD11) and Edie Hooton (HD10) on hand to tell us the inside story on the bills they fought for. Reminding us that MAJORITIES MATTER (thus our upcoming PRIMARY, June 26).

Your primary ballot will be mailed to you this week from the Clerk’s office. Come to our meeting, we’ll walk you through and have discussion about the parts you might not be familiar with. We’re here to help.

PLUS, we’ll offer a SNEAK PREVIEW of the Fall ballot measures to keep an eye on — WHAT PETITIONS NOT TO SIGN (they can be sneaky)!

ALSO, POSTCARDS: let’s remind Cory Gardner and Ken Buck that $3.8 million & $800,000 from the NRA IS A VERY BAD IDEA.

Join us…and please, bring a friend! Wednesday, June 6, 6:30pm, Front Range Community College, 2121 Miller Drive, Classroom Building (east side of Miller Drive), Community Room. (go in door C4, go left, past the cafeteria, Community Room is on the right across from the bathrooms.)

DID WE MENTION the Colorado Primary is TUESDAY, JUNE 26?:

Be sure to check your voter registration at govotecolorado.com to make sure your address is current.
You must be a Colorado resident by June 4 in order to vote in this primary. June 18 is the last day to request a replacement mail ballot or register to vote and be sent a ballot in the mail. But remember, you can register to vote on any day, including Election Day, and if you do so after June 18, you can still fill out your ballot at a Voter Service Polling Center.

If you are an unaffiliated voter, and you did not make a preference for what ballot to receive (preferred date was May 8, but click the link in this paragraph for more info), you will receive 2 ballots — but only fill out one ballot! If both ballots are marked in any way, your vote will be invalid. For more information about unaffiliated voting, including a video, go here.

Longmont Area Democrats has held several informative candidate meet & greets since January, candidates will continue to attend our meetings, and we will inform you of upcoming candidate events. If you have any questions, please contact us at longmontareadems@gmail.com

THANKS FOR ALL THAT YOU DO!

LAD Meeting: Wednesday, May 2!

Voting for Our Lives: Ending Gun Violence
THIS Wednesday, May 2 • 6:30pm • Front Range Community College
2121 Miller Drive, Classroom Bldg, Community Room, Longmont

A packed agenda tackling this issue from several perspectives, including personal stories from student activists and community leader Tom Sullivan, who lost his son Alex at the Aurora shooting, and is now stepping up to run for HD37. Marta Moreno will speak to the tragic shooting of Longmont’s Jeff Cordova and Juan Louis Garcia in 1980, that gave birth to El Comité.

We’ll have a short film with powerful messaging. We’ll give you a history of what gun safety laws have passed in Colorado, then outline what legislative work is still ahead of us and why voting with gun safety as a core motivation is critical to resolving this national crisis. We’ll finish the meeting with an action item directed to Senator Gardner ($3.8 million from the NRA) and Representative Buck ($800,000 from the NRA).

PLUS: An update about the Northwest Rail and other transit issues effecting Longmont, with RTD Board Member Judy Lubow and Longmont City Councilwoman Joan Peck.

You don’t want to miss this meeting…and please, bring a friend! Wednesday, May 2, 6:30pm, Front Range Community College, 2121 Miller Drive, Classroom Building (east side of Miller Drive), Community Room. (go in door C4, go left, past the cafeteria, Community Room is on the right across from the bathrooms).
