SIX (count ’em), SIX Bad Gun Bills Defeated!

UPDATE: THANKS TO ALL who showed up to testify AGAINST these bills on Monday. Colorado Ceasefire provided an excellent report on that day here.

DID YOU KNOW…there are SIX BAD GUN BILLS on our Colorado legislative horizon?! Last session, when Democrats had the majority in both the State House and Senate, they worked to pass SENSIBLE gun safety laws for Colorado — and they had more work to do. Democrats withstood immense pressure from the gun lobby — as well as threats!BUT NOW, Republicans in our state legislature are seeking to:
REPEAL background checks for concealed carry (HB1138)
• OMIT PERMITS for concealed weapons (HB1152)
• ALLOW CONCEALED WEAPONS IN OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS (HB1168)
enact NO LIMIT ON MAGAZINE SIZE (SB175)
LIFT RESTRICTIONS ON CARRYING OF FIREARMS (SB32)
• REPEAL GUN TRANSFER BACKGROUND CHECK REQUIREMENT AND FEE (SB86)
IS THIS THE COLORADO YOU WANT? Here’s your chance to step up for sensible gun safety laws in Colorado! Our Democratic legislators need your help!HERE’S WHAT YOU CAN DO —
SHOW UP: These FIVE BAD GUN BILLS will be heard by the House State, Veterans and Military Affairs Committee on MONDAY April 6th at 1:30pm, Room 271 at the State Capitol. Let’s carpool to the Capitol (or take the bus together!)
SPEAK UP (prepare a statement — we’ll help!) or if you’d rather not,
STAND UP in solidarity. Let’s OUTNUMBER the Gun Lobby!EMAIL OR CALL: Members of the House, State, Veterans and Military Affairs Committee to voice your opposition! (You can leave a message after office hours)

OR WRITE: Letters to the Editor (Denver Post, Times-Call, Boulder Daily Camera) to voice your opinion that these bills are a BAD IDEA for Colorado — undoing good work already done — and encourage public opposition to them!

ANY QUESTIONS? Use the links above to find Committee Member contact as well as editorial submission information. Use the “how to track a bill” and “legislative contacts & committees” widgets (to the right of this post!) at longmontdems.org. GOOD TO KNOW: HB means “House Bill”, SB means “Senate Bill”, and signifies the part of the legislative body the bill originated in. The “15” after the SB and HB in the bill document indicates the year of the legislative session the bill was introduced. When voicing your opinion, include a personal story as to why the bill is important to you. CHECK THE CALENDAR FOR EACH DAY AND OFTEN meetings are known to change time and room number at a moment’s notice!

EMAIL US AT longmontareadems@gmail.com for carpooling to the Capitol, taking the bus, and other information.

THANKS FOR ALL THAT YOU DO!
