Thank you for attending…

…Wednesday (June 15)’s screening of “8: The Mormon Proposition”. About 18 of us were moved as well as outraged by this powerful film. If you missed it, try to rent it, because this is a must-see documentary chronicling the efforts of the Mormon church to funnel $22 million into the campaign to pass Prop 8 in California — and they were successful.

In August of 2010, Prop 8 was ruled unconstitutional by a federal judge, but the case is under appeal and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals granted a stay, meaning same-sex couples currently cannot marry in California while the case is appealed.

Civil Rights = Civil Unions

The film also covered the disproportionate number of homeless teens in Utah, many of whom have been banished from their Mormon families for being gay, as well as the tragic suicides of young gay men, unable to withstand the pressure of being ostracized.
