6:30 pm

Please join us at 723 Main Street in Longmont for our monthly LAD meeting on February 2, 2011.

TOPIC: Corporate Personhood with Dan Leftwich, Evolutionary Law, and board member, Free Speech for People. (see description here)

A challenge to all LAD members:

As we embark upon the new year, we seek to increase our numbers, galvanize the Democratic base in Longmont and make the Longmont Area Dems stronger than ever! In order for us to be successful, however, we need YOUR help! To that end, I would like to challenge each of you to bring at least one person with you to February’s meeting. You can bring someone who has never joined LAD, a former member or a member who is no longer engaged. In order for us to succeed in Longmont, we need to G-R-O-W as an organization and, while the board is busy putting together a plan for 2011 membership growth, we need for everyone to assist in helping us fill 723 Main St. each and every meeting in 2011.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Wednesday, February 16, 7:00pm – LAD Presents: 723 Film Series, 9500 Liberty

From the 9500liberty.com website:

9500 Liberty makes it clear that when we, as a nation of immigrants, debate the issue of immigrants, we are defining our very identity as Americans.” — John Grisham, best selling author

Prince William County, Virginia becomes ground zero in America’s explosive battle over immigration policy when elected officials adopt a law requiring police officers to question anyone they have “probable cause” to suspect is an undocumented immigrant.

9500 Liberty reveals the startling vulnerability of a local government, targeted by national anti-immigration networks using the Internet to frighten and intimidate lawmakers and citizens. Alarmed by a climate of fear and racial division, residents form a resistance using YouTube videos and virtual townhalls, setting up a real-life showdown in the seat of county government.

The devastating social and economic impact of the “Immigration Resolution” is felt in the lives of real people in homes and in local businesses. But the ferocious fight to adopt and then reverse this policy unfolds inside government chambers, on the streets, and on the Internet. 9500 Liberty provides a front row seat to all three battlegrounds.

Please join us for this informative and inspiring documentary. And please bring a friend!

Wednesday, March 2, 6:30pm – Panel Discussion on Immigration

Join Us for a Special Panel Discussion On Immigration Issues
Moderated by El Comite’s Bob Norris

Please join us on Wednesday, March 2 at 6:30 PM for a very special discussion on immigration issues, presented from multiple perspectives.

As our nation continues to struggle with such critical immigration issues as immigrant rights/protection, legislative reform and relevant judicial decisions, it is imperative that our community of Democrats remains informed and active in order to be able to effect change and influence decisions relating to the treatment of our fellow immigrants.

After all, we are ALL immigrants and thus, we are all in this together!

El Comite’s Bob Norris will moderate and host this panel discussion, which will feature:

Jorge Loweree – Aide to Jared Polis
Victor Galvan – local activist and LYFE member
Alan Kaplan – CIRC Staff Policy
An immigration law representative

This discussion promises to be informative and, like all LAD events, FUN! So please join us!
