LAD Monthly Meeting - 1/5/2011 @ 6:30 PM
Special Guest Speaker:
Paula Noonan from Colorado Capitol Watch
Please join us at 723 Main Street in Longmont as we kick off 2011 in Dem Style!
Meet LAD 's new Board Members and join us for a guest presentation by
Paula Noonan from Colorado Capitol Watch.
Colorado Capitol Watch (CCW) has created a website that
"makes tracking the State Legislature easy, interesting, entertaining,
and transparent." Now you (yes, YOU!) can track any bill you might be
interested in as well as the voting records of all legislators.
CCW's Mission Statement:
Colorado Capitol Watch counts votes. We count votes by individual
legislator, by individual bills, by committees, by party, by
categories of bills, and any other way we can think of. We believe
that our legislators' votes provide the record of their performance
in serving the citizens of Colorado. We will bring that record to all
Coloradans.
A challenge to all LAD members:
As we embark upon the new year, we seek to increase our numbers, galvanize the Democratic base in Longmont and make the Longmont Area Dems stronger than ever! In order for us to be successful, however, we need YOUR help! To that end, I would like to challenge each of you to bring at least one person with you to January’s meeting. You can bring someone who has never joined LAD, a former member or a member who is no longer engaged.
In order for us to succeed in Longmont, we need to G-R-O-W as an organization and, while the board is busy putting together a plan for 2011 membership growth, we need for everyone to assist in helping us fill 723 Main St. each and every meeting in 2011.
Looking forward to seeing everyone in the New Year!

723 Main Street, Longmont – 6:30pm – 9pm
Please bring at least one friend with you! (read the LAD President’s challenge here)
February 2, 2011 topic:
ARE YOU CONCERNED ABOUT CORPORATE PERSONHOOD?
It has been a year since the Citizen’s United v. Federal Elections Commission Supreme Court decision. Every social issue you care about can be linked back to corporate control, and this decision only erodes our democracy. What can you do?
PLEASE JOIN US for the next LAD meeting as we welcome Dan Leftwich, with Evolutionary Law. Dan sits on the national board of advisors for non-partisan Free Speech For People which was formed immediately after the United States Supreme Court issued its ruling in the Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission case that allows corporations to spend unlimited amounts from their corporate treasuries on campaign advertising, and which threatens democracy by enabling corporations to drown out all other voices and pervert the fundamental purposes of the First Amendment.
In what promises to be an informative and energizing discussion about this most important issue, you will be ready to take the next step in strengthening our democracy.
Please bring at least one friend with you! Share ideas, meet other concerned citizens in your community, make friends. Have fun!
In the meantime, please check out www.freespeechforpeople.org
