4. The Four Mile Canyon Fire

In the middle of a contentious election season, Boulder County is seeing its worst disaster in decades.  It is hard to imagaine leaving your home knowing that when you get back … your home might not be there.  Hundreds of people are now homeless through no fault of their own. If you suddenly became homeless, where would you go?  Where would you take your pets?  This is a reality for our neighbors and friends.  While we will fight hard to see our candidates win in November, we also need to take care of our community TODAY.

Please come the office Grand Opening and bring some much-needed items for the most vulnerable fire survivors.

The Longmont Human Society is asking for:
1) Canned cat food
2) Non-clumping cat litter or pine pellets
3) Monetary donations to offset the overtime costs associated with the care and sheltering of these animals.

At this time they do NOT need dog food, thanks to everyone who has already donated.

They could also use the following:  hand sanitizers, small/medium size dog/cat treats. canned tuna (in water), Kong dog toys (preferably black).

Hope to see you all at the Grand Opening and let us Pray for Rain.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Singer
Longmont Area Democrats President

2) Progressive Pizza Night September 29th

3) How to Help Our Candidates Win (and stop the Tea Party)

4) Chamber of Commerce Debate

1) LAD Monthly Meeting and Presentation

What: Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Three -     Learn more about how Ballot Issues 60,61,and 101 will hurt our State by killing 70,000 jobs, cutting 8,000 teachers, and messing with our Constitution.

Who: Rich Jones, Director of Policy and Research from the Bell Policy Center

Where: 723 Main St.

When: Wednesday , October 6th at 7:00pm.

Why: In many ways, it won’t matter who gets elected in Colorado if Ballot Issues 60, 61, and 101 pass.  The state will have no discretion for any funding.  Please take some time to learn about these issues.

Can’t make it?  Go to http://www.donthurtcolorado.com/ to learn more.

2) Progressive Pizza Night at 723 Main St.

I was trying to think of what to call this event.  Pepperoni and Politics?  Calzones and Canvassing?  Anchovies and Phone Banking?

If you have a better idea for this title, come on by and give me your suggestion (I already told the Republicans that Sausage and Socialism has already been ruled out).  I mean come on, who wants government pizza?

What: Come make phone calls and knock on doors for our Democratic Candidates and afterwords, join me for Pizza (on me!).

Where: 723 Main St. Longmont

When: Sept. 29 at 5:00pm – 9pm (Pizza at 8:30)

3) How to Help Our Candidates Win (and stop the Tea Party) at 723 Main St.

Just in case you weren’t fired up about the 2010 election season, here is a quote from Tea Partier Glenn Beck:

‘I think there is a handful of people who hate America. Unfortunately for them, a lot of them are losing their homes in a forest fire today.”

—Glenn Beck, on why people who lost their homes in forest fires in California had it coming, ‘The Glenn Beck Program,’ Oct. 22, 2007

- Senator Michael Bennet:

Is in a tough position right now.  Recent polls have him losing to his Tea Party opponent, but it’s close.  Let’s flip those polls around again.

If you want Colorado to be represented by someone who believes in keeping Social Security secure, come help him out!

Is knocking on doors until or knuckles go raw.  Don’t let that happen, by helping her out.

Recently several right leaning outside organizations have launched polls in Longmont about Deb.  Help keep this seat blue.

Next Saturday join her at 723 Main St. at 10am and 1pm for voter outreach.

Call 303-579-1042 or email deb@debgardner.net for details.

Personal Note:

I know a lot of you are working really hard to elect our candidates.  2008 was a cakewalk compared to 2010 in terms of effort.  But that doesn’t mean that we don’t have time to laugh!  Click on this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1T75jBYeCs&feature=related to see the CSPAN coverage of Pundit Stephen Colbert’s actual testimony before Congress.  Si se Puede!

Keep the Faith,

Jonathan Singer
