MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE MEMBERS
OF LONGMONT AREA DEMOCRATS
HELD MARCH 3, 2009

A Regular Meeting of the Members of Longmont Area Democrats was held March 3, 2009 at Front Range Community College, 2190 Miller Drive, Longmont, Colorado, commencing at approximately 7:10 p.m.

CALL TO ORDER

The meeting was called to order by President Jonathan Singer who presided. Board Secretary Jack Wolfe, acted as Secretary of the meeting.

Thirty-three adult members and guests were present.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Matt Jones, a possible future candidate for HD-12, was introduced, and he explained why he felt he would be a good candidate for State Representative. Community Food Share has a need for store greeters and drivers for two hour shifts for its Hunger Drive, April 8-21. Bob Norris asked that people call or e-mail support to their state senators and representatives on the tuition equity bill that is being considered by the legislature. He suggested that expressions of support are appreciated even on bills that are firmly supported by the Democratic Party.

AMERICAN RECOVERY AND ECONOMIC REINVESTMENT ACT OF 2009

Jonathan Singer passed out several printouts from “Media Matters” debunking some of the myths about the act. He then introduced Andy Schultheiss, Congressman Jared Polis’s District Director and Bob Hollinghorst, Boulder County Treasurer. He noted that a representative of Congresswoman Betsy Markey’s office was supposed to be in attendance but canceled at the last moment, and he thanked Andy for being willing to step in. Andy Schultheiss then discussed the various bills that passed, or are being considered by Congress concerning economic recovery.

Jonathan read a letter from Namaste Solar regarding the potential for new jobs in the solar energy industry because of the Act.

Bob Hollinghorst passed out a summary of appropriations and authorizations contained in the bill. He then discussed his take on the causes of the country’s economic problems and how to solve them.
